Here's a weird thought

I'm thinking of posting a book here. I have no aspirations to gain some audience or really any readers for it. It just seemed like an interesting experiment to post an entire novel.

No hook. No catch. No fishing for subscribers or purchasers. No intros with a forced download to read the rest. Just the whole book. Right here.

A serial novel in 500 word blurbs.

The Corporate Blogging Book says one of the top five things people want to see on blogs is more fiction.

I'm sure other people have done this before, so it's not like I'm charting new territory or anything. Though I would hope the book would be better than most freebies.

So why not?

Comments:
Cool idea, neighbor. I'm just down I 10 from you in SA. Saw your link on Camy's site, so came to say hello!

Well, that was quick. Thanks for commenting eileen. I lived in San Antonio and taught for years, so we have a lot in common.

Kerrville is a new thing for us. A good thing. And we visit SA often.

Thanks for reading!

Is it already written?

It is already drafted and edited several times over. It is a few days worth of work away from a state of complete polish.

I've had agents express interest, but I don't have the patience for them anymore. And I've been given the run around for a long time.

I also thought others might benefit from seeing some of the different cover letters I used to send it out, the book proposal, etc. I don't know how valuable that material would be since none of it proved successful for the book.

Also, there is little risk for posting it on a blog. If a publisher were to ever pick it up, I could pull the content. At least, that is my rationale.

The thing is, I don't care if the book sells. I'd just like a few readers. But I can't even find out if I could get a few readers unless I get a publisher to buy into the concept that MANY readers will like it.

Which reminds me of the long tail... But I would be offering it completely free as a gift to the world.

(And by world, I mean the four people who read this blog.)

Reader number one, in line. :)

Thanks for the encouragement, Eileen and L.L. I posted the first section. Enjoy.

Go for it! You might want to take a look at the book that Paul Gillin has just written -- and posted online in entirety -- at The New Influencers
- Debbie Weil, author of The Corporate Blogging Book

Wow! Thanks for the comment and the encouragement. I checked out Paul Gillin's site, and it is a great model to follow. I was especially surprised to see that his publisher had him post the book in Word files!

On a personal note, I'm a big fan of your book. It has been a real service to the foundation I work for.
